“Reflection”
Charcoal and pastel on paper
22" x 30" (55.8cm x
76.2cm)
In
this portrait I have sought to capture the mood of the subject and the
atmosphere of the moment, one of quiet reflection with an underlying tone of
sadness and regret.
Just
as the face reflects innermost feelings, the soul of the model; our view is
broken up and distorted; as if looking through a window we catch a glimpse
of a private moment, as the subject, in deep reflection, is lost in thought
and becomes still.
I
have always been interested in relationship between sitter and artist; also
between the artist and viewer and the way that the mood of the subject,
captured in the image, is communicated through the artist to the viewer.
In
looking for new and interesting ways to communicate feelings and emotions
via my art I have combined the texture of torn paper with charcoal and
pastel to build a subtle and compelling image.
