Francis prefers to work directly from life where possible but also uses photographs as reference in order to achieve not only a likeness of the sitter but an atmosphere that conveys the mood and personality of the person.
He is a passionate believer that the ordinary should be celebrated and that not just the well known and famous are deserving of being immortalised on canvas.
His portraits are not only honest, but compassionate and dignified.
